Lead Experience
I was promoted to the lead position at the MWC at the end of spring 2022, after working with the center for a year. I knew from the moment the position was brought up, that it would be the perfect next step in my professional plans, as well as a great opportunity to help my fellow consultants.
Meeting facilitation
As a lead I have a few extra meetings every week, mostly to help me prepare for leading circle meetings with 4-7 consultants. These focus in on professional development provided by admin, as well as create a much more friendly and social environment that everyone can feel safe and comfortable in.
Lead projects
Lead consultants get the chance to work on projects for the MWC that others might not. We work on things like handbooks or articles for the canvas page, but I worked on a data visualization project. I turned the raw data we had gathered on usage and hours at the MWC and created a series of 6 graphs for use of admin and consultants.
Community building
One of the goals I said I wanted to work towards as a lead when I applied was building relationships and a sense of comradery between us as coworkers, or more than that, as friends. I do this by way of example, as well as encouraging those I work on shift with and my circle to talk and bond with each other. The best kind of work environment is one where you feel seen and heard.
